I also am the kind of person that enjoys playing the stealth based character, but normally its an assassin. Mayhaps they'll introduce it later on though, since the games not QUITE setup for such things atm (At least as far as I could tell, theiving would not work too well presently)

Maybe it could be added in another expantion. Remember, they will be adding expantions to the game, but I think a thief would be a great addition to Guild Wars.

idont like the idea of a thief. i mean you just finised a mission and you have the greatest rare sword, and all of a sudden a guy comes up and steals it, then you flare him, thenhe flares you, then the guy to the right says stop flaring then they both flare him. it just sounds like the start of caos. and rangers are stealth char. its in their description

lol well I realise having a theif player stealing from other human players would cause oh so many problems. But what's to stop them from lifting a little 'extra' loot from a shop keeper or other NPC bloke? Besides, Rangers maybe steal like, but nothing beats a good cold hearted assassin.

i still dont know, stealing from shop keepers is a little eay to get cash. i could see a stealth char. but not have any stealing abilitys, i think the tought of have a player that could steal from NPCs would
1)over load it with noobs who want cash
2)have people just steal when ever they need money instead of doing missions and geting better
and 3)piss me off
i think this char. would causemore problems and wouldnt be worth the trouble.and wat would you do in missions? pick pocket the monsters to death?

lol, never played many games as a thief I assume?

If we take morrowind for example, if you try to pick pocket a bad guy, or a shop keeper at too low of a level, you get caught and fail horribly, they attack you, reputation goes down, etc etc.

I know they probably couldn't have shopkeepers go all balistic and attack someone if they tried to steal from them. But your guilds reputation or your reputation for that matter could go down. As it goes down, the pirce of objects increases, people are less friendly, something along those lines.

And as for pickpocketing a bad guy to death? Hell yes! Steal his sword, beat him over the head with it! j/k

I do agree for the most part that having a 'thief' would require a fair amount of work, but whats to stop them for using the all encompassing 'Rogue'. Other games have done it sucessfully, NWN comes to mind.

I don't think it would make much sense to have a Thief included in the game; what would there be to steal from? You're supposed to be an honorable member of the Academy, so I don't think you would want to be stealing from your own people, would you? Besides, that would prove to be unbalance the game; a person could go through, create a Thief or two, go around and loot for a few hours with that character, and then simply use friends to trade the gold and/or items you acquired to your normal character. Too much abuse is possible.

And besides, what kind of Attributes would you have for a Thief? When I think of thieves, I'm thinking of how they are in the Fire Emblem games, which means that they're naturally weaker than the other professions of the game, so I don't think people would want to sacrifice attack power for being able to steal a few extra gold coins. The only real thing that I can see them doing would be to increase their "Evasion" factor so that there's a higher chance of an enemy attack missing. But that amounts to nothing if it takes you twice as long to kill the enemy, and if there are any Monks nearby, you'll have no chance of doing any significant damage before that person is healed.

Now if you were to change it up to be an Assassin, that is a profession that I can see coming out as an aspect of an expansion. You could have Attributes linked to speed of attack, critical hits, and something which would decrease the range at which an enemy is able to spot you and begin to engage (seeing as Assassins are generally quite stealthy). That could be a fun profession to try out, but I'm perfectly content to play with the six professions we have now, at least until I have gone through each profession at least once.

I like the idea of an assassin or thief, it would make the game so much more interesting and fun.
Trouble is it doesn't really suit the sort of Gameplay in GW does it?
I mean how can a thief kill someone in 8v8 pvp combat, thieves arn't built for zapping people with wands or bashing them over the head with a hammer they're meant for stealth.
So I reckon it's a good idea but it would also mean the style of gameplay may need to be altered
